Extractions
An extraction is performed as a last resort when all other possible treatments have failed. Symptoms that a tooth that may need to be extracted include facial swelling, infection, gum swelling, and intense pain.
If after examination and after all other treatments have been exhausted the doctor determines your tooth may need to be extracted, an anesthetic will be applied to numb the area. Next, the tooth is extracted. With anesthetics, patients today experience much less discomfort and only minor bleeding.
Following an extraction, we may prescribe an antibiotic to ensure that no infection sets in.
