Sometimes, when a patient comes in for a hygiene appointment, we notice that there are stubborn tartar deposits below the gum line. In order to prevent or minimize damage to the tooth, we will perform scaling and root planing to clean your teeth below the gum line in order to remove the stubborn tartar or calculus. Scaling and root planing is an effective treatment to prevent or minimize any further damage to your teeth and it gives your gums an opportunity to attach and heal itself properly.

We will let you know at your next appointment whether you are a candidate for scaling and root planing. Of course if you have any questions about your oral hygiene, we want you to feel comfortable to discuss your concerns.
